Police clash with nurses protesting for regularization in Karachi

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Nurses recruited on contract basis during the first wave of coronavirus held a protest in Karachi demanding regularization. During the protest, a nurse was injured due to police baton attack. However, the protest was called off after successful talks with Health Secretary Sindh.

According to the details, the nurses recruited on temporary basis for three months protested against non-regularization outside the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday.

The nurses tried to go towards the Chief Minister’s House to voice their demands, on which the police charged at them with batons and dispersed them. A nurse was injured as a result.

Later, the nurses staged a sit-in outside the Sindh Secretariat. Successful negotiations took place between the Secretary of Health and the nurses. According to the Secretary Health, the permanent status of nurses can be decided through the Sindh Public Service Commission interview.

Under the second option, the matter will be taken up in the Sindh Assembly through a bill. After assurances from the Secretary of Health, the nurses announced the end of the protest.
