PDM all set to stage power show in Multan today

MULTAN (Dunya News) - Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is all set to stage show of Power at Multan’s Qilla Kohna Qasim Bagh today (Monday), Dunya News reported.

A large number of workers has started doing march towards Ghanta Ghar in the form of a rally.

The leadership of Pakistan Democratic Movement including Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Maryam Nawaz, Yousuf Raza Gilani, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and others are scheduled to address the public meeting.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will address the PDM public meeting in Multan via video link as he is in isolation after being tested for coronavirus.

On the other hand, the Punjab government and local administration had denied permission to the opposition parties for the meeting owing to increasing virus cases in the second wave of the COVID-19 in the country and sealed the area.

Earlier on Sunday, the Multan administration took control of Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh stadium again besides arresting various Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders and workers belonging to different political parties including Kasim Gillani, the son of ex-premier Yousaf Raza Gillani after they stormed into the venue by removing barriers.

Multan police and administration blocked the central routes of the Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh stadium and removed the tents, chairs and other equipment from the venue of the PDM rally besides deploying additional contingents of security officials.


PDM will hold rally in Multan at any cost: Fazlur Rehman


Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief and head of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Maulana Fazlur Rahman on Sunday has said that rally in Multan will be held at any cost.

While addressing the media after chairing key session, the JUI-F chief alleged the incumbent government of committing state terrorism. PDM workers are being arrested in Multan to affect the rally, he added.

Fazlur Rehman said that people will arrive at the venue by crossing all the barriers placed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Earlier, JUI-F chief had chaired a key meeting over arrest of workers ahead of Multan rally scheduled on November 30.

Ex-Prime Minister (PM) and leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Yousaf Raza Gillani, Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) leader Maulana Anas Noorani, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member Rana Sanaullah and others participated in the session.

During the meeting, the members discussed startegy against detention of their workers.

The move came after local government arrested more than 40 activists over clash with police officers deployed at Multan’s Qilla Kohna Qasim Bagh.

The political workers carried out a rally from Gillani House and clashed with police at Chowk Ghanta Ghar.

The security personnel also arrested Yousaf Raza Gillani’s son Ali Qasim Gillani and PML-N leader Saad Khursheed Kanju. Workers of PDM were also apprehended from Vehari, Dunyapur and Jhang.

A case was also registered against over 300 unidentified people for vandalism.


PPP will host PDM rally in Multan come what may: Bilawal


Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday said that his party will host a rally of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) on November 30 no matter what government does.

Bilawal Bhutto, who is in self-isolation after contracting the coronavirus, said in a tweet that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is so threatened by upcoming foundation day of PPP that it has arrested the party workers including Kasim Gillani, son of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani.

PPP Chairman further announced that his sister Aseefa Bhutto Zardari will be representing him as he has tested positive for novel coronavirus.

On the other hand, the local government has arrested more than 40 activists over clash with police deployed at Multan’s Qilla Kohna Qasim Bagh to bar opposition’s PDM from holding rally on November 30.

The security personnel have arrested ex-Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani’s son Ali Qasim Gillani and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Saad Khursheed Kanju.

Workers of PDM have also been arrested from Vehari, Dunyapur and Jhang.

It is to be mentioned here that the district administration has placed over 30 containers to seal the venue and cut off electricity connections in a bid to create hurdles for the organizers.

Workers at Qasim Bagh Stadium alleged that the equipment brought for the rally has been seized by the police and they were trying to bring in generators for the rally after the power connections were cut off.
