Punjab budget for 2011-12 approved

The Punjab Assembly has passed the provincial budget for 2011-12 amid a charged atmosphere.

The Pakistan People’s Party favoured demands for grants while the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) voted in opposition.President Asif Ali Zardari’s address in Garhi Khuda Bakhash echoed in the assembly as PML-N and PPP members traded accusations.Despite the charged atmosphere, the PPP voted in favour of the budget while PML-Q against it.Replying to criticism on Danish Schools, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that elite schools were given heavy funds during Musharraf’s regime.The opposition accepted his invitation to discuss the issue of foreign aid in the province.
