Pak evades going into blacklist by passing FATF-related bills in time: Farogh
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Law Minister Barrister Farogh Naseem has said that Pakistan would have been blacklisted if the FATF laws had not been passed within the stipulated time. After scrutinizing the measures, FATF will remove Pakistan from the gray list.
Talking to Dunya News program "Dunya Kamran Khan Kay sath", he explained important points from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) that FATF s condition is to arrest without warrants in a money laundering case. Money laundering cases in many countries have similar arrest, he added.
Replying to a question, Farogh Naseem said that counting is not done when the number of government and opposition members in the House is clear. There was not much difference in the number of opposition and government members in the joint sitting of the House today, so the counting was done.
He said that if the counting had not been done in the joint meeting, the whole process would have been dubious. It has already been said that there are some proud Pakistanis in the opposition who put the interest of the country first.
He said that if the FATF laws had not been passed in due time, Pakistan would have been blacklisted. Going on the blacklist would have declared Pakistan a "banana state". The politics of the opposition parties will fall so much that it will not even see the interest of Pakistan? I was saddened by the attitude of today s opposition.
Answering an important question, the Law Minister said that we have fulfilled all the conditions of FATF regarding September 30. After examining our actions, FATF will remove Pakistan from the gray list.
Talking about the attitude of the opposition, Farogh Naseem said that some leaders of the opposition were misleading the people regarding the FATF laws. No law can be against the constitution of Pakistan.
He said that the friends of PPP and PML-N believe my point. If this is a black law then the opposition should state its clause, I will remove it myself. The opposition should tell the truth about the money laundering bill.
Barrister Farogh Naseem said that the amendment in the Anti-Terrorism Act was made at the request of the opposition. Pakistan is currently mired in the fifth generation war. In the Fifth Generation War, our enemies easily persuade to speak out against the army.
He said that there is no law to remedy the defamation of the army, private members are amending the law through a bill to remedy the defamation of the army.
He said that he thought that PPP and PML-N would never want bad for Pakistan but today the way in which the opposition made misleading statements against FATF is not correct.
