Pak Army called in to grapple with rain-hit Karachi

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – As Karachi witnessed record breaking rains during the ongoing monsoon season, the city’s drainage system fell flat against the challenge and the metropolitan city delved into chaos. Multiple incidents of electrocution, drowning and other accidents were reported and the local government seemed helpless.

To alleviate the problem of Karachi’s urban flooding, Prime Minister Imran Khan has tasked both National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Pakistan Army with dealing with the perilous situation.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan Army has been called in to assist the civil administration of Karachi.

The government has also sought urgent approval from the federal cabinet to send the National Disaster Management Authority to the city.

Governor Sindh Imran Ismail said on Thursday that the federal government is fully focused on Karachi and NDMA, FWO officials have already reached Karachi on the directive of the Prime Minister.
