Citizens of Karachi cannot be left at PPP's mercy: Shibli Faraz

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Information Minister Shibli Faraz has said that the recent rains have caused a lot of damage to Karachi and a lot of misery for its citizens, who cannot be left at the mercy of PPP’s government.

Shibli Faraz said that Sindh government has done nothing for the development of the province. No attention has been paid to strengthening institutions and infrastructure in Sindh. He said the biggest incompetence of Sindh government is that it seems that there is no sewerage system in Karachi. He demanded immediate redressal of Karachi citizens’ grievances and said that the federal government will do whatever it can for the citizens of Sindh.

He was briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, saying that the Prime Minister has expressed displeasure over the non-payment of media dues before Eid.

The Minister also said the government is taking all possible measures to ensure provision of quality wheat flour and sugar at low prices. He said the country has sufficient stock of wheat and sugar, and at present there is no issue of inadequate supply.

He said wheat is being provided to the flour mills in Punjab, and the provincial government is providing 16 billion rupees subsidy on the product. However he also told that private and public sectors have been directed to import wheat to meet the deficit of 1.5 million ton wheat.

The Minister said the district administration has been directed to take strict action against hoarders of wheat and sugar.
Senator Shibli Faraz said the cabinet has approved constitution of a commission to enquire into the causes of shortage of petrol last month. He said the commission will give recommendations to ensure that such a situation does not develop in future.
