PM Imran said he wishes to see Punjab police become an example for everyone.

MIANWALI (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday formally inaugurated the Model Police Station in Mianwali and said that the destiny of a country changes when the police do its work efficiently.

Addressing the ceremony at Mianwali City Police Station, he said that the politics of "thana-katchery" culture has severely damaged the country but the model police are trying bring a reform. “Model Police Station is a beginning to reform the police,” he expressed.

He asserted that the politicians used to commend police personnel on an unfair merit and for personal benefits. “The past rulers used to control the police stations and courts which have hurt the order of the country,” he said, adding that Punjab police will become an example for everyone. Prime Minister said setting up of model police stations is important for public welfare, and it reflects the new thinking to improve state of affairs.

PM Imran went on to say that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government freed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police from political pressure in the previous government. He expressed hope to see reforms in Punjab police same as KP police. “I wish to see Punjab police on the par with KP police”, he added. He said police should provide sense of protection and peace to the public.

He viewed that the provision of a friendly atmosphere to the people at the police stations could make a huge difference. "We have developed wrong habits particularly due to the bad governance during last 30 years", he said, adding that the nation’s progress was linked with the confidence given by the police to the needy and distressed people through friendly atmosphere by doing away with the old mindset and culture.

PM Imran lauded the IG Police for establishing the model police station equipped with token calling system and other modern facilities. 

The premier said the remodeling of the old police station was very significant where the people would get their complaints addressed through a modern token calling system instead of looking for some references to approach the police officers.

Establishing model police stations in Punjab is part of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s initiative and vision of justice for all. On his arrival at the model police station, Punjab police presented guard of honor to the Prime Minister. Chief Minister Usman Buzdar also accompanied the Prime Minister.

IG Punjab briefed the Prime Minister about the working of Model Police stations.

Under the initiative, 29 model police stations have been set up throughout the province where CCTV cameras have also been installed to monitor the performance of police. A helpline 8787 has also been established for registering complaints and a Superintendent of Police will be appointed in every district for dealing with complaints.

After the video link inauguration by Prime Minister, District Police Officer Syed Shahzad Nadeem Bokhari told newsmen that the purpose of establishing Model Police stations is to ensure provision of quick relief to the citizens and to get rid of “Thana Culture”.

These Police Stations will also strengthen trust between public and the police, he expressed and said that in police department, police stations have a fundamental and vital role and steps are being taken to improve the working of all the police stations. He said that front desks were being set up at all the police stations to redress the grievances of the people, open door policy is being followed and the doors of his office are always open for the people.

Bokhari said, special initiatives being taken to restore the confidence and trust of the people in police. While talking about the newly inaugurated Model Police Station, he said that this has been done as per the vision of Prime Minister and IGP Shoaib Dastagir, adding that this police station will use modern technology, will have waiting room and front desk counters, Dispute Resolution Committee Hall, CCTV cameras and other facilities to serve the visiting citizens.

It is worth mentioning that 50 police stations will be converted into Model Police Stations and in the first phase, 29 police stations including Attock city have been made Model Police Stations today.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated Huawei ICT Lab at NAMAL Institute Mianwali.

The Prime Minister was briefed about state of the art information and communications technology facility at NAMAL Institute.
