RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Former Minister for Finance Miftah Ismail was released on bail from Adiala jail against surety bonds of Rs10 million.

While talking to media after his release, he said that God has always honored him. He thanked Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif for letting him serve, and he also thanked judiciary for granting him bail.

Earlier Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted post-arrest bail to Miftah Ismail in LNG case on December 23.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Mian Gul Hassan approved the bail for the PML-N leader.

On August 7, 2019, the anti-corruption watchdog had arrested Miftah Ismail and former Managing Director of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) Sheikh Imran-ul-Haq after IHC rejected their bail plea.

The Supreme Court on September 10, 2018 had directed NAB to complete inquiry against Abbasi and others for the alleged corruption in the LNG contract.

As the minister for petroleum and natural resources, Abbasi has been accused of granting contract on LNG to favourite company.

In June 2018, the NAB approved inquiry against former premier Nawaz Sharif and Abbasi, who was the former minister for petroleum and natural resources at that time.

It was also observed that this contract had allegedly caused a loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer.
