Lodhi raises human rights situation in IOK in UNGA's Third Committee session

NEW YORK (Dunya News) – Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dr Maleeha Lodhi on Wednesday has raised human rights situation in India occupied Kashmir in United Nations General Assembly’s third committee session.

During an interactive dialogue in UNGA’s third committee, Lodhi backed the call to establish a commission of inquiry to investigate the gross human rights violations in IOK.

She said all liberties had been taken away from people of occupied Kashmir while human rights violations continue with impunity and tales of torture abound.

The Pakistani representative further called on the international community to assist the office of HCHR in fulfilling its mandate including implementation of its own reports and recommendations, especially those on HR violations in occupied Kashmir.

Lodhi said that she also got an opportunity to meet UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet before the session.

“I thanked Bachelet her for her statement in recently concluded Human Rights Council session in Geneva in which she had expressed concern about the human rights situation in occupied Jammu & Kashmir,” she added.
