NADRA allegedly demands Rs10mn bribe for ID card

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) reportedly has demanded a bribe of Rs5 million from the identity card’s applicant, increasing the total to Rs10 million.

According to details, a meeting of Standing Committee was presided over by Senator Abdul Rehman Malik today. It was mentioned in the meeting that the NADRA officials have demanded a hefty bribe from an applicant named Musa Khan.

At the meeting, Musa Khan said that NADRA first asked for bribe of Rs5 million whereas they are asking for Rs10 million for issuing an identity card.

Rehman Malik constituted a sub-committee and appointed Mutahidda Quomi Movement-Pakistan (MQM- P) Senator Mian Attique as its chief. He directed a thorough investigation into the matter and said that relevant officials including DC Quetta and NADRA must present in the sub-committee.

On the other hand, during a briefing to the committee on sexual abuse of a boy imprisoned in Adiala Jail, IG Prisons told that there are 5,000 thousand people locked up in Adiala jail instead of 2200, which has created many problems. He requested that 800 convicts should be transferred to other prisons.

Meanwhile, On the case of Salahuddin, who died in police custody, IG Punjab admitted that he was killed in police custody. A case has been registered against the Station House Officer (SHO) and other officials. “Those who are responsible will not be forgiven”, asserted in the session.

“So far 3045 people have been killed in police custody and fake encounters”, said Chairman Committee. “Transparency is not possible when police are investigating such crimes, no matter how big the crime is, police are not allowed to murder accused in detention,” he asserted adding that violence in police stations should be abolished.
