QUETTA (Dunya News) – At least one person was killed and 13 others injured in an explosion in a market in Quetta’s Mission Chowk on Tuesday.

As per the details, the blast -second in the last one week- took place in a small market located on the city’s busy Mission Road, killing at least one person and wounding 13 others.

The nature of the blast is unknown yet.

Following the explosion, rescue staff reached the spot and shifted the body and wounded to local hospital for medical assistance.

Provincial home minister Mir Zia Langov visited the site of the blast and said that the neighbouring enemy country was spreading chaos in the Balochistan.

DIG Quetta Abdul Razzaq said that the blast targeted the people of Balochistan, adding that the terrorists came to the market.

The large Balochistan province is strategically important due to its rich copper, zinc and natural gas reserves.

The province is also a key route of $64 billion megaproject, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which aims to connect China s strategically important northwestern Xinxiang province to Balochistan’s Gwadar port through a network of roads, railways and pipelines to transport cargo, oil and gas.

With its 600-kilometers long coastline, Gawadar is a key deep seaport currently operated by China, which aims to attain direct access to Indian Ocean via this seaport.

The economic corridor will not only provide China cheaper access to Africa and the Middle East but will also earn Pakistan billions of dollars for providing transit facilities to the world’s second largest economy.
