Pakistan yet to reply to world court on Kishanganga Dam

Experts fear that delayed response from Pakistan will benefit India.

International Court of Arbitration constituted by the UN which is hearing the Kishanganga project case and the court had asked Pakistan to submit its reply until April 15. But the Pakistan did not submit its reply as yet. They said that Pakistan would submit its reply in the first week of July and after its’ reply, India would submit its reply within 6-month.Sources said that India had completed 43 percent work on the dam and would try to complete up to 50, so that it could get favour according to the law. “The delay in submitting reply will favour India,” said legal experts.Kishanganga project is a water dispute between India and Pakistan and India is building 330MW Kishanganga Hydropower Project through diversion of Neelum River, by violating Indus Water Treaty. Diversion of the river water will reduce 16 percent power generation capacity of the Neelum Jhelum power project and Pakistan will face more than Rs 6 billion losses.Pakistan has objected to the project, claiming that the project not only deprive it of priority rights over the river but also hit agriculture sector and power generation capacity of the country. Pakistan is facing problems in implementation of the 969MW Neelum Jhlem Hydropower Project. On the other hand, India is trying its best to complete the construction of the project before February 2014.
