National departments owe Rs 1593 billion to govt

The tax money collected from poor masses is being spent on loss bearing institutions.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) –National departments including PIA, steel mills, WAPDA and others owe over Rs 1593 billion to national exchequer.

The tax money collected from poor masses is being spent on institutions having tax deficit. In nine months of current fiscal year, the departments owe 294 billion to government.

As per details, PIA owes 156 billion and Pakistan WAPDA 88 billion to national exchequer. Pakistan steel mill that is on complete halt from 4 years also owes 43 billion to government.Other government departments owe 1084 billion to national kitty.

The experts believe if government did not expedite the privatization process of these loss bearing institutions then they would continue to fetch money of tax payers.
