Nishwa Case: SHCC seals OPD of Darul Sehat
The move comes after death of Nishwa, who was administered a wrong injection
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Following the orders of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Healthcare Commission on Wednesday sealed the Out Patient Department (OPD) of Darul Sehat after nine-month-old Nishwa passed away on Monday.
Sindh Health Care Commission (SHCC) chairman Dr Tipu Sultan said that the ICU and CCU wards, however, are still open and the treatment for patients will continue.
He said that according to the law, providing health facilities to the patients in the hospital is compulsory, adding that the hospital administration should provide healthcare facilities to the patients.
Dr Sultan went on to say that more than 50 patients including women, men and children were still being treated in various wards of the hospital.
According to Dunya News, the attendants of the patients welcomed the Sindh government’s decision and said that such hospitals should be sealed as soon as possible.
The move comes after the death of a nine-month-old Nashwa, who was administered a wrong injection at the hospital.
On April 14, the nine-month-old girl had paralysed allegedly after being administered ‘wrong injection’ by ‘untrained nursing staff’ at Darul Sehat Hospital situated in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
Sindh CM orders to seal hospital
Expressing dissatisfaction with the report of Sindh Health Care Commission, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had directed to sealed Darul Sehat Hospital over negligence, violation of rules and administering wrong injection to nine-month-old Nishwa,
Sindh Health Care Commission in its report had penalized the Darul Sehat Hospital with Rs,500,000. The commission had also asked the Hospital to sack their untrained staff.
Meanwhile, the male nurse Agha Moiz and midwife Sobia have been declared as responsible for administering the injection to the toddler, which ultimately resulted in her death due to brain damage.
The Sindh CM also said he was not satisfied with the penalty of Rs.500,000, adding that the death of Nashwa was of criminal negligence.
