Power shortfall reaches 5,700 MW

The power shortfall has reached 5, 700 MW and loadsheding duration has risen to 20 hours a day.

According to the PEPCO sources, the power generation has reduced to 9,000 MW, while the demand is 14,700 MW.Ten power generating units have been closed at Tarbela that caused a shortfall of 4,500 megawatt hydropower generation, while the overall power generation has been reduced by 8,000 megawatt.Several IPPs have stopped working due to non-availability of furnace oil.More than 70 grid stations in the country had been closed for four hours each, due to which darkness prevailed in several parts of Lahore.The unannounced loadshedding has affected industrial and business life in FESCO-administered areas including Faisalabad, Jhang Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali and Bhakar.In southern Punjab, loadshedding continues for up to 12 hours in urban areas while 14 hours in rural areas. The shortfall is quoted to be 575 MW.
