14-hour power cut hits industries, consumers hard.

According to sources, the country has a capacity to produce 17,000MW, but due to shortage of gas and furnace oil, thermal production has decreased by 50 percent and hydal production has also decreased by 70 percent. The country needs 14,500MW, but the production is only 10,000 MW. Due to 4,500MW shortfall, the load shedding duration has reached 6-8 hours in urban areas and 10-12 in rural areas. In Faisalabad, the load shedding duration has reached 16 hours. While in other provinces, 10-12 hours unscheduled load shedding has become a routine matter.
