Balochistan assembly passes resolution to suspend local body elections

QUETTA (Dunya News) – Balochistan Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution to suspend local body elections.

Government and opposition members have demanded to conduct the polls after amendment in local body act 2010 and according to new census and delimitations.

The House also passed bill to education a compulsory service. It imposed ban on strikes of teachers in educational institutions.

Deputy Speaker Babar Musa Khel chaired the session which begun after a 20-minute delay.

The resolution tabled by provincial information minister Zahoor Baledi maintained that the Balochistan government seeks time to amend local body act 2010 therefore the elections should be held after new delimitations.

Opposition party BNP-Mengal supported the resolution but was opposed by Pashtunkhwa Mili Awami Party.

The House also passed development tax law which will be imposed immediately on products being imported through rail, road, air and sea.

Balochistan CM Jam Kamal said that the tax will increase revenue of province.
