Sahiwal incident: JIT report submitted in LHC
A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice of LHC heard the petition.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has on Monday submitted report in Lahore High Court (LHC) during the hearing of petition filed by victim Khalil’s brother in Sahiwal tragedy.
A two-member bench headed by LHC Chief Justice Sardar Muhammd Shamim Khan heard the petition. Justice Muhammad Shamim pronounced that everybody will be sent to jail if the record is forged.
JIT failed to produce the report earlier, and LHC had directed JIT chief Ijaz Husain Shah to submit it till 1 PM.
Chief Justice of LHC had also reprimanded the JIT head for not submitting the report. While giving remarks on the case, Justice Shamim Khan said that federal government has the authority to form the judicial commission.
The petitioner’s counsel argued that a judicial commission was formed in Model Town case as well. The court responded that rules were different at that time, and the judicial commission can now be formed after federation’s consultation with the chief justice.
Furthermore, Justice Sardar Muhammd Shamim Khan commented that it is a very serious matter and summoned explanation from federal government on February 7 regarding the formation of commission.
In the petition, Jalil had pleaded the court to nullify the Joint Investigation Team formed to probe into the incident as he was not expecting justice from it.
The plaintiff had made Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Punjab Inspector General (IG) Amjad Javed Saleemi parties in the case.
It is pertinent here to mention that the CTD officials had killed four people, including a couple and their teenage daughter, and injured a teenage son in a suspicious ‘encounter’ on GT Road near Sahiwal.
The incident had triggered a nationwide outcry that prompted the government to take the security officials into custody and order an investigation into the incident.
The suspects were identified as Shahid Jabbar and Abdul Rehman travelling towards Sahiwal and were reportedly in possession of arms and explosives, CTD stated.
The counter-terrorism officials claimed that the operation was conducted to capture an ‘Islamic State (IS) commander’ on a tip off by an intelligence agency.
