Investigation of Sahiwal incident is underway in a transparent manner.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Thursday rejected the demand of the opposition parties for the formation of judicial commission over Sahiwal incident.

He said this after his one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Buzdar said that the investigation of Sahiwal incident is underway in a transparent manner, adding that the government will consider forming a judicial commission in case of any problem in the investigations.

The Punjab CM said that case against CTD personnel is the court.

Buzdar said: “A total of Rs20 million will be paid to the victims’ families.”

Senate rejects JIT, urges govt to form judicial commission

On Tuesday, Senate Standing Committee on Interior Chairman Rehman Malik rejected the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and asserted to hold a judicial inquiry to probe into the killing of the three members of the same family and their friend in an alleged encounter by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Sahiwal.

The parliamentary panel met Senator Rehman Malik while relatives of the victims, including Khalil’s brothers and Zeeshan’s mother, appeared before the panel to record their statements.

The committee categorically rejected the joint investigation team (JIT) formed by the government to probe into the incident. “Why the government is not appointing a judicial commission to probe into the incident,” questioned Malik.

Mother of Zeeshan, who allegedly had links with a banned outfit, told the committee that her son was not a terrorist. “Why Zeeshan was not arrested alive, if an Indian terrorist Kulbhushan Jadhav could be arrested alive,” she asked.

It is pertinent here to mention that the CTD officials had killed four people, including a couple and their teenage daughter, and injured a teenage boy in a suspicious ‘encounter’ on GT Road near Sahiwal.

The incident had triggered a nationwide outcry that prompted the government to take the security officials into custody and order an investigation into the incident.

The suspects were identified as Shahid Jabbar and Abdul Rehman travelling towards Sahiwal and were reportedly in possession of arms and explosives, CTD stated.

The counter-terrorism officials claimed that the operation was conducted to capture an ‘Islamic State (IS) commander’ on a tip off by an intelligence agency.
