CTD officials to be tried under anti-terror law: Raja Basharat
Government decided to remove the DIG and SSP Counter Terrorism Department from their posts.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday while removing top police officials, has decided to prosecute the CTD officials under anti-terror law.
Talking to media in Lahore on Tuesday, Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat said that the Sahiwal tragedy is a test case for the Punjab government, adding that the provincial government will fulfill all requirements for justice.
Raja Basharat said that the government has decided to remove the DIG and SSP Counter Terrorism Department from their posts.
“The government has promised to conduct transparent investigations,” he said and added the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had been formed on the orders of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The provincial minister said that according to the initial report, the CTD officers were responsible for the killing in Sahiwal, adding that the JIT report found no link between Khalil family and terrorism.
He said that the details of the decisions of the meeting would soon be shared with the media.
Earlier, Joint Investigation Team on Sahiwal incident presented its initial report to Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Tuesday. The report was presented at a high-level meeting in Lahore today.
The chief minister decided to remove top officials of the CTD.
Additional Inspector General (IG) Establishment Ijaz Shah, who is heading the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) revealed earlier that six officers of the Counter-Terrorism Department were under detention and statements of four eyewitnesses were recorded so far.
The JIT members examined the crime spot to review every aspect of the incident. Members from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau have also been included in the team.
The Additional Inspector General, Police Establishment and the head of the Joint Investigation Team formed for probing the Sahiwal incident, Aijaz Shah has sought two more days from the Punjab government for filing an investigation report.
