it presents different scenario with the innovation of latest technology.
(Web Desk) – A public library is a non-profit library, which is maintained for public use and funded by the government or the public sources. Unlike other libraries, public library satisfies general public information needs by providing all kinds of knowledge and information available to all segments of the community regardless of race, nationality, age, gender, religion, language, disability, economic and employment status. It may also provide other services to their communities such as, storytelling for children, after-school programs, language learning, seminars, workshops and other community services.
But in the case of Pakistan, it presents different scenario with the innovation of latest technology, mostly people think they are not dependent upon library for enlightenment, however, government is also showing reluctance in this regard to pay attention on the public libraries.
The major evidence of Government’s carelessness is the public library in Multan where the 50pc rare books have been pilfered while the remaining 35,000 packed into small sacks. The cats have made their habitats in the shelves which were made for books of history, linguistics and many others.
Dusty almirahs of magnificent building are stocked with dilapidated 35,000 books that were purchased for bibliophiles. They are being eaten away by termites where the negligence of library caused filched of 50,000 books as 80,000 rare books were purchased for the library ealier.
Where are these 50pc stolen books? who are responsible for pinching of these books? No one dare answer these questions, however, an investigation against the staff is underway.
"All persons who were involved in the book pilfering will get their just desert in the end of investigation," Mayor Multan Naveed Arain Said.
However; after witnessing the current situation of library, disappointed citizens have demanded to shift the library to ghanta ghar.
