Govt, opposition held talks on appointment of PAC chairman

Government asked the opposition for another name instead of Shehbaz Sharif for PAC chairman post.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Talks between government and opposition parties delegations were held at the Parliament House on Monday over the issue of appointment of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman, Dunya News reported.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Fawad Chaudhry, Amir Dogar, Farogh Naseem and Ali Muhammad Khan were members of the government delegation while the opposition was represented by Ayaz Sadiq, Naved Qamar, Rana Sana Ullah and Rana Tanveer.
The government side asked the opposition for another name instead of Shehbaz Sharif as the former Punjab CM is booked in NAB cases and cannit be made PAC chairman.
Shah Mehmood urged the opposition members to show flexibility in this regard. The members of opposition delegation from PPP and PML-N sought more time to consult their party leadership. The two sides are scheduled to meet again today (Tuesday).
Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership on Monday said that the name of Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman was not acceptable saying the PML-N president is booked in NAB cases.
A parliamentary party meeting presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to ask the opposition for another name instead of Shehbaz Sharif.
Sources privy to the PTI said that the meeting decided that the PML-N president’s name for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman was not acceptable as the former Punjab CM is booked in NAB cases.
The meeting further directed the assembly members to accelerate mass contact campaign. On the occasion, PM Imran Khan also briefed the parliamentary leaders about recent agreements with Saudi Arabia, UAE and China.
