Pakistan is home to unlimited potentials with its core being the youth

ISLAMABAD (APP) – Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood Thursday said the Ministry would provide full support to the Higher Education Commission (HEC), students and education institutions for uplift of the sector.

Addressing the opening ceremony of HEC-Huawei ICT Competition 2018 held at the Commission’s Secretariat, the Minister said that the efforts of Huawei Technologies with collaboration of Higher Education Commission (HEC) are unmatchable. It’s great that both the organizations realized the need of holding such competitions to make the youth aware of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), he added. These competitions will train students professionally to become the IT support of country, he said and assured the support of Education Ministry in all such events in order to transform the education system of Pakistan.

Sharing the goals of incumbent government, the Minister vowed to change the current education system by introducing one national curriculum and certification to address the problem of multiple education streams in the country putting some at disadvantage. He also ensured to improve the quality of education across the country and would focus on skill development by setting up skill universities.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Chairman HEC Tariq Banuri thanked Huawei for a long-term collaboration. He was of the view that ICT program should be replicated by other organizations in order to encourage more and more students to involve in informative competitions.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Huawei Pakistan Mr Saif Chi highlighting the essential need to have ICT competition, said that Huawei team will hold seminars and roadshows in universities to create awareness about the competition among the students.

Also Pakistan is home to unlimited potentials with its core being the youth, he said adding that with HEC’s support together we will be able to tap youth’s ICT talent which will contribute in the development of Pakistan’s ICT industry.

Ambassador of China to Pakistan Mr. Yao Jing recognized the unbeatable talent of the youth in Pakistan. He appreciated Huawei and HEC saying “ICT competition is a great initiative to train students in this ever growing IT world.” He highlighted the role of the government in improving education and creating some famous names in the fields of IT, health, social sector etc.

The ICT Competition will help enhance the quality of future ICT professionals In Pakistan, along with increasing national ICT competitiveness and supporting local students across Pakistan.

In 2018, the 3rd ICT competition will aim to motivate more students into registering for the competition and polish their ICT talent. Huawei will focus on holding awareness seminars, workshops and preliminary rounds of this year’s competition at Pakistan’s 14 running Huawei Authorized information and Network Academy (HAINAs) starting from this month.

The competition is part of Huawei’s longstanding effort to have a positive impact on the community in the Pakistan. Huawei has already implemented a Seeds for the Future program to offer training and internships to promising students across the region.

The ICT Competition offers students additional opportunities to gain valuable experience in the industry. Participants will work in a real laboratory, and tackle some of the industry’s most complex challenges.

Huawei has also collaborated with the HEC to launch the Huawei Authorized information and Network Academy (HAINA) program. This program provides opportunities to promote studies of advanced technologies through R&D and adopt Huawei’s globally renowned university-enterprise cooperation model.
