NAB approves inquiries against Khawaja Asif, Aleem Khan
The board also approved filing of corruption reference against former federal minister Babar Ghauri.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Director General Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal on Thursday approved investigation into corruption charges against Abdul Aleem Khan and Khawaja Asif.
The board also approved filing of corruption reference against former federal minister Babar Ghauri who, through alleged illegal appointments, caused a loss Rs2.85 billion to the national exchequer.
Former foreign minister Khawaja Asif faces charges of money laundering that caused a loss of Rs3.66 billion to the national exchequer.
Last year, NAB inititated probe into Aleem Khan’s offshore company on order of Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal after he was named in Panama Leaks in April 2016 among 435 Pakistanis.
The PTI leader said he had provided the details of his assets to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
“I never ever made a single penny by corruption or hold a piece of land in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while serving the last government of PTI.”
In February, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan had questioned NAB’s inaction against Asif despite presence of ‘undeniable evidence’ against him. In his comments, Imran urged that accountability of those looting country’s wealth was necessary.
“Silence of NAB despite the evidence of money laundering and corruption is beyond understanding,” he maintained.
The PTI chief asserted that they are ready to provide the details to NAB. “Usman Dar can give the evidence of Khawaja Asif and his wife’s banking transaction to NAB,” he said.
