Eid Ul Azha 2018: Lack of facilities in cattle markets causing problems

(WebDesk) – With Eid ul Azha around the corner, grownups and children alike are super excited to buy the sacrificial animals at a decent price and make their ways home along with the animals. A certain risk, however, surrounds the animals with respect to their health. Even though large cattle markets have been set up across the country, yet there are close to no facilities available for the treatment of animals in various veterinary clinics and animal hospitals.

In many of the hospitals either the staff is not available to entertain the shepherds and their animals or there is a lack of proper instruments needed to treat the cattle. In some of the hospitals something as basic as vaccinations are not available so the animals often make their way to the cattle markets to be sold, without having been vaccinated. Such circumstances only mean that not only are the animals bound to suffer from illness, but the ones who will eat the sacrificial meat are also prone to diseases that on many occasions may prove to be fatal.

A lack of proper treatment means that the animals are already being infected and attacked by various insects and other pests. This indicates the fact that many animals may not even make it to Eid Day. Something as deadly as the Congo Virus also infects the animals largely.

“There is no one available to apply spray. When the potential buyers find out that the animals have not been treated, obviously they don’t buy the cattle from us”, said one shepherd while talking to Dunya News. Another said: “Last time we were supplied with water pumps as well. This time, however, pumps are being sold only privately. Such is our case that our cattle haven’t had water since early morning.”

These lack of facilities can prove to be very cruicial for all the parties involved. So the concerned authorities should take immediate action and probe into this grave issue so that no one gets adversely affected by the variety of problems that arise in the markets.
