ECP seeks report over recovery of stamped ballot papers from garbage in Karachi
ECP has directed to launch investigation into the matter.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday has sought report from provincial office, commissioner, district returning officer and returning officer over the issue of recovering stamped ballot papers and voting cards from heap of garbage in Karachi’s Qayyumabad.
ECP was informed the votes, cast in the favour of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and All Pakistan Muslim League in NA-241, were tried to burn.
Reacting to it, PPP leaders said that ballot papers of PPP and other political outfits were put out of the ballot boxes while those of ‘specific party’ were inserted inside the ballot boxes”.
Earlier, some unidentified persons threw away empty ballot boxes at the bank of Nullah Bhaid in PML-N leader Khawaja Asif constituency NA-73 on Friday night and escaped away.
Authorities had also recovered two to three bags full of computerised national identity cards (CNICs) dumped on a nullah a day before the general elections. Police said the number of cards recovered could be more than thousand.
