ECP annuls elections in NA-10, NA-48 citing low women's turnout
Electoral body has taken this decision under Elections Act 2017.
(Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has on Saturday declared elections in NA-10 Shangla and NA-48 North Waziristan null and void as women voters failed in registering 10pc turnout.
As per details garnered, electoral body has taken this decision under Elections Act 2017 whereas polls will be re-held in both aforementioned constituencies.
Before General Elections 2018, ECP had made it overtly clear that elections in any part of the country including FATA would be annulled if the turnout of the female voters remains below 10pc.
He said, “As per the new Elections Act 2017 if we receive any compliant about the number of cast votes below 10 per cent of the total number of female votes in any constituency or any polling station, we will immediately declare the elections as null and void and will arrange for re-poling,”.
