Appellate tribunal had disqualified former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

(Dunya News) – Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday stated lifetime disqualification is tantamount to personal attack and claimed Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) appellate tribunal has surpassed its jurisdiction.

While discussing his disqualification in Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Sath, perturbed Abbasi announced to challenge the disqualification verdict in Islamabad High Court (IHC).

“There was no mistake in my documents. I submitted two separate sets of evidence to avoid any error. My counsel added new line in the affidavit before submission of the nomination papers. The judge instructed my lawyer to add the missing line in the affidavit as he has the jurisdiction to do so”, stated Abbasi while adding that he would move Supreme Judicial Council against the appellate tribunal judge.

Abbas also dismissed allegations of misrepresentation in the nomination papers.

Earlier, appellate tribunal on Wednesday disqualified former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for life from contesting election from NA-57 Murree.

The eight-page verdict issued by Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi declared that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is not eligible to become Member of Parliament under Article 62 (1) (F) of the constitution as he is not Sadiq and Amin.

The verdict says that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi declared the value of his F-7/2 house in Islamabad as three hundred thousand rupees in order to obtain a loan of 25 million rupees.

He also under declared his assets in nomination papers which is a clear discrepancy in oath of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
