The Punjab Assembly members on Tuesday criticised the government for issuing liquor sale permit.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz lawmaker Saeed Akbar Nawani said that use and sale of liquor was not allowed in Islam. Pakistan People’s Party’s Fozia Behram said that the house should be informed what benefit the ministry concerned or the chief minister was taking from the issuance of liquor licenses.Punjab Excise and Taxation Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rahman said that only 11 hotels were issued licenses after completing all documentation and formalities. The federal government makes the policy of liquor permits and the provincial governments just follow the rules, he said.The Christian lawmakers said that liquor was also forbidden in their religion, on that Deputy Speaker Rana Mashhood said that they should discuss this matter with the law minister.
