ECP meeting underway to finalize name of caretaker Punjab CM

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A meeting of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is underway in Islamabad to decide over the name of caretaker chief minister Punjab.

The meeting is being presided by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) retired Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza.

All four ECP secretaries are attending the meeting. The four names forwarded by the speaker Punjab Assembly for the slot of caretaker Punjab CM are under consideration.

Election Commission will agree on a name after consultation and will announce the appointment.

Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi and Ayaz Amir are the nominees of opposition while the Punjab government has nominated former naval chief Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah and Justice (retd) Sair Ali for the caretaker Punjab CM.

ECP will appoint the interim provincial CM under article 224-A.

It will also finalize the name for caretaker chief minister of Balochistan as provincial parliamentary committee has failed to reach consensus about it.
