Pay bills of PIA, get Steel Mills for free: Miftah Ismail
Miftah expressed concerns over growing current account deficit.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Adviser to Prime Minister on Financial Affairs Miftah Ismail on Thursday offered to give Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) for free to the person who is willing to pay dues of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
Ismail stated that financial resources of masses are being wasted on giving salaries to the staff of state-institutions which are incessantly incurring hefty losses.
Ismail stated that Pakistan’s economy is facing two huge problems at present i-e ever increasing current account deficit and budget deficit. He said a large ratio of federal government’s revenue is spent in terms of loan and interest payments.
Commenting on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rate, Ismail said in the previous financial year it stood at 5.3pc whereas government is making efforts to soar the same to 6pc in the ongoing fiscal year.
“An increase in the exports will eventually reduce current account deficit”, he asserted.
