LHC reserves verdict on presidents dual office

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved its verdict on the dual office of President Zardari.

An LHC full bench, chaired by Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry, was hearing a petition regarding the dual office of President Asif Ali Zardari, who also has the office of co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).The petitioner’s lawyer, AK Dogar, said that under the constitution, the president could not hold two offices. President Zardari is holding the office of co-chairman of the PPP, which is the violation of the constitution, he added.The lawyer sought court’s order against the president’s dual incumbency, saying that the President’s House had become the center of political activities. The government had refused to defend the case and the court asked constitutional experts, Abid Hasan Manto and S.M. Zafar to assist the court on the matter. Hearing the arguments of all lawyers, the court reserved its verdict.
