Minister of State for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal responded to a call attention notice

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Minister of State for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal on Friday told National Assembly (NA) that petroleum prices in Pakistan are lowest in the region.

Responding to a call attention notice, he said that the oil prices are reviewed keeping in view the trend in the international market.

He assured that the prices will be reduced as these come down in the international market. The Minister of State said that they have managed to keep the inflation rate below four percent.

Afzal said the government has no option except raising the prices when prices go up in international market.

Raja Javed Ikhlas, Parliamentary Secretary on Cabinet Secretariat, claimed that despite increase in the prices of petroleum products in the international market, the government tried not to pass its full impact.

The members on the occasion asked the government to withdraw the recent increase in the prices of oil and reduce the general sales tax on the petroleum products.

Opposition parties had assailed the government for the undue hike in petrol prices, condemning it as oppression. The Ministry of Finance had approved Rs3.56 per liter increase in the price of petrol on Wednesday.
