ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Accountability court on Friday has reserved verdict on recording statements of foreign witnesses in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Avenfield reference through video link.

Justice Mohammad Bashir heard the case during which exemption from hearing pleas were submitted by ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz. Their counsel has also assured the court that his clients will appear in next proceeding.

During the hearing, the NAB prosecutor said that video linking was allowed in the case of state of Maharashtra and Dr. Praful B. Desai over which, lawyer Amjad Pervez said that in this case, commission was permitted to record statements through video link.

Witness Robert Redley was a private expert, who was hired by JIT over conditions, he added.

Subsequently, the court will announce the reserved verdict over the plea today.

Previously, the court had rejected Nawaz Sharif’s plea against NAB supplementary reference and summoned five witnesses of the prosecution regarding supplementary reference. He had also directed to record the statements of the witnesses living abroad via video link.

Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Harris raised objection over the supplementary reference, saying that it was filed by keeping in view Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report.

NAB team argued that the supplementary reference supports old allegations and that there is nothing new in it.
