Katas Raj Temple case: SC expresses resentment over ETPB chief for skipping hearing

Dunya News

SC sought details of ETPB property records, income sources and issues of Hindu community.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) on Friday has expressed resentment over the absence of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Siddique ul Farooq in the hearing of Katas Raj Temple case.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar headed the proceedings during which, he sought details of ETPB property records, income sources and points on issues being faced by Hindus.

He also asked about the absence of Siddique-ul-Farooq, suggesting to remove him from his post. He also clarified that the court will take action when departments will fail to do proper work.

Responding to the statement of Imran Khan regarding Parliament, CJP said that we respect the Parliament and consider it a supreme institution.

“It did not matter what was being said about the parliament by others, the SC believes parliament is a supreme institution,” he added.

Earlier, head of the Pakistan Hindu Council, Dr Ramesh Kumar told the court that ousted premier Nawaz Sharif appointed Siddiqul Farooq as ETPB chief instead of Justice (retd) Rana Bhagwandas. Ramesh maintained that a non-Muslim should be the head of ETPB, and said there is neither any statue in the Katas Raj Temples nor any Hindu worker.

It is worth mentioning here that CJP had taken a suo moto notice of drying up of a pond in Katas Raj Temples owing to cement factories in Chakwal on November 2.

The water body is referred to by the Hindus as the ‘The Lake of Tears’ owing to a legend about one of the Hindu gods.
