Punjab govt mandates 75pc attendance for board, university exams
The all-important step has been taken to uplift educational standards, says Ali Raza Gillani.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – In a bid to ameliorate province’s educational standards, Government of the Punjab Friday approved the decision of obliging students to maintain at least 75 per cent attendance so as to appear in board and university examinations.
Punjab minister for higher education Ali Raza Gillani said that the government will take steps to ensure implementation of the decision. From now on, he said, admissions will be sent to the respective boards and universities of only those students whose attendance will meet the 75 per cent criteria.
Gillani apprised that special teams will visit colleges and universities across the province for the purpose of ensuring implementation of the decision.
Hitherto in Punjab’s educational institutions, 70 per cent attendance was mandatory for student to qualify for examinations. Because of this, teaches would often complain of low overall attendance.
Professors, lecturers, and administrations of colleges and universities have hailed the efforts of the Punjab’s higher education minister as this revolutionary step will go a long way in ensuring greater participation of students in the educational process.
