585 bikes have been theft from Lahore in 2011

Motorcycle theft has become a routine in Lahore as 585 incidents of bike stealing were reported in various police satiations of the city in less than two months of 2011, Dunya News reported.

From the government hospitals in Lahore 40 bikes were stolen. On February 2, 15 motorcycles were swiped from the city, the highest number of the year.Police authorities say the removal of parking fee by the Punjab government is a major cause of the increasing incidents of bike theft. It is a general impression that the stolen bikes are disassembled and their parts are sold in the market. A motor mechanic said that only one hour is required to disassemble a bike.Apart from the incidents of theft, 63 bikes have been snatched in the ongoing year. The figure of the similar incidents was 53 in the last year, while 380 bikes were stolen in the same period.
