MQM-P convener said they will only move for an alliance with PSP for 2018 general elections

KARACHI (Dunya News) – After the all-important Rabita Committee session held between Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders, convener Kanwar Naveed Jameel has clarified that their party will stay put and retain its flag, manifesto and election symbol.

The meeting was chaired by Kanwar Naveed Jameel in the absence of party chairman Farooq Sattar in a bid to appease disgruntled party members who opposed MQM Pakistan’s merger with PSP.

Talking to media after the meeting, Jameel refuted the reports of merger with Mustafa Kamal’s Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) and told that their party will only form an alliance with the latter for 2018 General Elections.

Explaining the nature of MQMP-PSP alliance, he gave the example of an historical alliance between MMA and IJI in post-Zia era.

He clarified that their alliance with PSP will not be held on the seats which they won in the previous elections. MQM-P Rabita Committee has expressed full support in the leadership of Farooq Sattar, he added.

Refuting the reports that MQM-P leaders are likely to join PPP, he assured that Khushbakht Shujat will stay in the party.

Farooq Sattar shows resentment

Later on, Kamran Tessori, Nasreen Jalil and Waseem Akhtar arrived at the residence of Farooq Sattar to appease him. He refused to meet them.

Tessori said that the Muhajir community is upset and has asked why Sattar didn’t chaired the committee.

On the other hand, Sattar reaffirmed his yesterday’s decision of merger with PSP, saying they are not playing games.

PSP chief Mustafa Kamal opined on the matter that Sattar is in distress. MQM belongs to the founder and will always remain his, he added.
