Ruling party said that their leadership is not in question and everyone knows what happened in trial

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) responded to the verdict ruled by the Supreme Court over review petitions filed by ex-PM Nawaz Sharif against the Panama case decision.

In the detailed 23-page order on all three review petitions, the Supreme Court judge Justice Ejaz Afzal ruled that no loopholes were pointed out in the disqualification order by the claimants. The declaration issued by PML-N questioned the fairness the trial, adding that there leadership has never been in question.

Expressing their concerns over the alleged one-sided ruling, the notification pointed out that insulting remarks were used for Nawaz Sharif and the detailed verdict is an example of revenge.

It claimed that Nawaz Sharif and his family acted upon the verdicts issued by the apex court without any hesitation, however, the party cannot bear derogatory language as used in political rallies.

The struggle of Nawaz Sharif for honourable judges is part of the history and PML-N will continue to play its role for the protection of constitution, it added. The declaration criticised those senior judges who carry out character assassination of Pakistani citizens while hiding behind the freedom of judiciary.

Moreover, the declaration from PML-N responded to the couplet written by Justice Ejaz Afzal in his detailed verdict by replacing the words and questioning the fairness of the trial. It should be mentioned that accountability court has rejected ex-prime minister’s plea seeking merger of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Avenfield properties, Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investments references against him.

Disqualification verdict (July 28)

Supreme court had issued a detailed order on July 28th this year that disqualified Nawaz Sharif as the prime minister of Pakistan in a corruption reference nearly more than four years after he assumed federal government in 2013.

Opposition parties namely Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Awami Muslim League (AML) contested for his disqualification following Panama Leak in 2016.

The top court took up the petitions in October 2016 and after four months of hearings, the verdict was reserved in February which was delivered on April 20th. the apex court had ordered formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe assets of the then first family of Pakistan and file a report within two months.

After a controversial trial of the family at hands of the six-member JIT, a report was filed to the five-member bench of the apex court in the second week of July.

Nawaz Sharif was stripped of the premiership on July 28 by the Supreme Court of Pakistan and a formal notification was released by Election Commission of Pakistan in the following hours.
