The top court has issued a 23-page order in review petitions against the July 28 verdict

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has issued verdict over review petitions filed by disqualified premier Nawaz Sharif stating that no loopholes were pointed out in the disqualification order by the claimants.

The top court has issued a 23-page order in review petitions against the July 28 verdict in a corruption reference against Nawaz Sharif and his family.

According to the order, the accountability court that is hearing corruption references against the family is free to go ahead with verdict that it deems appropriate in light of the evidence provided.

The court has maintained that six and a half years worth of salary is to be considered an asset of Nawaz Sharif and that forged affidavit was attached along nomination papers of Nawaz Sharif.

The order compiled by Justice Ijaz Afzal reads that the facts regarding disqualification of Nawaz Sharif were uncontroversial. It is wrong to claim that then premier was ‘shocked’ by the order, the court has ruled.

Disqualification verdict (July 28)

Supreme court had issued a detailed order on July 28th this year that disqualified Nawaz Sharif as the prime minister of Pakistan in a corruption reference nearly more than four years after he assumed federal government in 2013.

Opposition parties namely Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Awami Muslim League (AML) contested for his disqualification following Panama Leak in 2016.

The top court took up the petitions in October 2016 and after four months of hearings, the verdict was reserved in February which was delivered on April 20th. the apex court had ordered formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe assets of the then first family of Pakistan and file a report within two months.

After a controversial trial of the family at hands of the six-member JIT, a report was filed to the five-member bench of the apex court in the second week of July.

Nawaz Sharif was stripped of the premiership on July 28 by the Supreme Court of Pakistan and a formal notification was released by Election Commission of Pakistan in the following hours.
