Smog woes: Timings of Punjab schools revised

Schools will now open at 09:00am and the students would have their lecture routines end at 03:02pm

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Provincial department concerned has revised timings of schools in Punjab starting on Tuesday in light of smog that has irked the locals for past three weeks.

Following the revision, schools will be opening at 09:00am and the students would have their lecture routines end at 03:02pm.

Education minister Rana Mashood explained the revision of timings in a media talk after he attended a ceremony in a Lahore restaurant. The provincial minister said that the government has taken the step owing to blankets of smog and fog on the city.



The purpose of the development is to keep students safe from the harsh atmosphere. He further announced that teams would distribute masks among students in Punjab schools.

Earlier in the day today, seven persons lost their lives in traffic accidents across Punjab owing to near-zero visibility.

Some 20 vehicles collided near Sial Mor on motorway in the morning today claiming a life and leaving 25 wounded. A truck collided with a passenger bus in Faisalabad claiming two lives and injuring a person.



A woman was reported killed as two motorcycles collided in Okara while five were wounded in a traffic accident on Sheikhupura Grand Trunk (GT) Road.

Four were wounded in an accident in Pakpattan. Meanwhile, three were killed and five sustained injuries when a bus rammed into a rickshaw in Sukkur after the driver lost its control.

On the other hand, the motorway was reopened after remaining shut for 13 hours. The authorities have advised the drivers to travel at day time.

Flight operations in Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad and Sialkot have also been restored however; train operations are still facing a delay causing immense problems for the passengers.
