Islamabad: Axing trees in the name of 'infrastructure'

(Dunya News) – Culling of trees in the name of infrastructural developments has stretched to a new high in the country’s capital - Islamabad.
The process of trees being chopped down for the widening of the capital city’s boulevards has now reached Embassy Road, where more than two hundred and fifty trees lie axed.
Young trees including those belonging to Pine, Sheesham and Sukh Chayn families have been cut down by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for the road-widening project.
While according to the residents of Islamabad the natural beauty of the city is being tampered in the name of infrastructure, Minister of Climate Change Mushahid Ullah Khan in a conversation with Dunya News said that CDA shall not be permitted to continue chopping down trees in such a large number. “This is no solution…to chop down trees,” said Khan adding that he had brought the matter to the Prime Minister’s attention.
