PIA steward involved in smuggling set free after meagre fine

The accused should have been jailed after termination according to the department rules.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) steward Muhammad Shoaib, who was caught red-handed while smuggling, has been set free by the inquiry committee after being fined only Rs20,000.

A case was lodged against Shaoib in 2014 when he was caught smuggling 41 valuable cellular phones and GBP 5,000. The inquiry committee had recommended a meagre fine for the accused, and to cancel his three increments.

On the other hand, custom sources have said that Muhammad Shoaib should have been jailed after termination according to the department rules.
