(Dunya News) – Fathers and uncles of the deceased teenage couple who had been killed in the name of ‘honour’ on the orders of a tribal council (Jirga) have been arrested by police in Karachi.

The medical board under the supervision of a local magistrate has collected the samples by exhuming the bodies that had earlier been buried.

The teenage couple, 17-year-old Ghani Rehman and 16-year-old Bakht Bajaa of Ibrahim Haideri Ali Goth – who had allegedly run away to get married, were electrocuted by their families in the name of ‘honour’.

After the ‘honour killing’ of the couple was reported, the police arrested the fathers, and uncles of both the victims, while the head of the tribal council fled.

“The couple was tied to a charpoy and given electric shocks,” said the local SHO, Aman Marwat. “The head of the council, Sartaj, who had declared it a matter of ‘honour’ and ordered killing the couple, has escaped,” he added.

According to the police, the accused during the investigation have confessed murdering the youngsters. Following the confession, the police under the supervision of a magistrate, dug open the graves of both the victims and after postmortem the medical board has secured the collected samples for chemical examination.

The locals while condemning the incident have rejected such councils and its decisions.
