Nisar says they will take alternatives into consideration if Rangers' powers are not extended

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chaudhry Nisar called it ‘odd’ that the Sindh government was compromising on the security of Karachi. He said that other alternatives would be considered if Rangers’ powers were not extended.

Interior Minister said that Rangers could only fulfill their responsibilities in Karachi if procrastination was avoided in Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, adding that the Sindh government’s initiative of giving limited powers to the Rangers was illegal.
He said that no law could be restricted through administrative order.

“Sindh government wants to give powers to the Rangers on the terms of Punjab which is not reasonable,” he added.

While criticising the government of Sindh, Nisar told that the security of the people of Karachi was being compromised. “They want Rangers protection for themselves but not for the common man,” he added.

He warned the provincial authorities that alternative options would be taken into consideration if such situation prevails for an extended period.
