IPPs are adding 5,500 Mega Watt to the national grid

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Power shortfall has crossed past 3,500 Mega Watt leading grids to shed load by 12 to 14 hours outages in rural areas and 8 to 10 hours those in urban areas.

According to the officials of National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited, demand in the country stands at 14,500 Mega Watt to fulfill which there is 11,000 Mega Watt. Hydel power production has reduced to 3,500 Mega Watt out of water shortage in dams.

IPPs are adding 5,500 Mega Watt to the national grid while 2,000 is being added by other power sources.

Sources have revealed the statistics asserting that the shortfall would hit 19,000 Mega Watt by June and July causing the grids to stretch hours of outages.
