QUETTA (Dunya News) – Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sanaullah Zehri has suspended Commandant Captain (r) Tahir Naveed, Deputy Commandant Yameen Khan and Headquarters District Superintendent of Police (DSP), Muhammad Ajmal over security lapse that led to terror attack on police training centre this week.

A preliminary report in the issue held all three officers responsible for not taking necessary security measures.

The Chief Minister said that action against the persons responsible for the security lapse that cost 61 lives was a step towards mitigating possibility of attacks in the future.

Meanwhile, a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) was formed on directives of the Chief Minister to probe the attack on police academy on Sariab Road. The team is led by Brigadier Bilal Ali and includes Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Aitzaz Goraya and representatives of Frontier Corps (FC) and other law enforcement agencies.

The provincial government has also written to the Chief Justice (CJ) of Balochistan High Court to hold a judicial inquiry.

Three terrorists had stormed a police facility earlier this week in Quetta and martyred 61 freshly recruited cops before they were neutralised in a following operation that was led by a contingent of Pakistan Army.

Over 100 persons were injured in the attack that raised different questions including the one voiced by different analysts that why the fresh recruits did not possess weapons to counter the attack.
