ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Barrister Zafarullah has recommended trying terrorists through sessions courts and not the civil along with having courts function in the evening as well.

Zafarullah addressed a joint press conference with Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid in the capital today.

It was stated during the conference that a committee was preparing to file recommendations for amendment in the criminal laws to better system for improved protection of judges and the witnesses. Investigations in the cases would now rely on modern scientific and technological base with the usage of DNA test and audio and video link.

Hamid highlighted that the bill that was passed yesterday in the National Assembly over ‘honour killings’ had set 25 years imprisonment as the least punishment for any convict.

Capital punishment was recommended for convicts in rape cases involving underage or disable victims thus DNA test of the victim would be necessary, Zahid Hamid added.

Rape cases would be heard in in-camera session while the court would give verdict within three months, the leaders informed. The lawmakers said that the government was working to curb registration of false cases.
