Karachi: Authorities resume anti-encroachment drive on Gujjar Nullah

The encroachers were warned to vacate the location by Monday.
KARACHI (Web Desk) – The local administration has resumed a grand operation to clear encroachments on Gujjar Nullah in Karachi today (Monday), Dunya News reported.
10,000 illegal houses will be demolished during the operation, an official said.
Residents including women and children in large number protested against the move, however, police managed to disperse them within few minutes.
District Central deputy commissioner Captain (retd) Fariduddin Mustafa stated that the 13km long Gujjar Nullah starts from Haji Mureed Goth and ends in North Karachi Sector 11-J.
Reportedly, the drain was 210 feet wide but its width has been reduced to only five feet at many locations due to encroachments.
After the anti-encroachment drive, authorities will make it 60 feet wide and build a 10-foot-wide road on both sides.
