KARACHI (Dunya News) – The targeted operation against terrorist elements in Karachi is underway as Rangers have apprehended as many as six militants from different areas, reported on Wednesday.
According to Rangers spokesman, the security personnel conducted operation in Manghopir, Patel Para and PIB Colony and took at least six terrorists into custody.
During door-to-door search, Rangers blocked the entry and exit points and confiscated arms from the possession of arrested criminals.
It has also been revealed that three of the suspects belong to banned outfit while one is a member of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
Karachi, a metropolis of 20 million that hosts the stock exchange and central bank, is beset by armed violence, and many of its sprawling slums are no-go areas for outsiders.
Two years ago, the military, with help from police, paramilitary Rangers and intelligence agencies, unleashed a campaign against armed gangs and suspected militants in the city.
The operation, which escalated in March last year, is officially aimed at rounding up criminals and militants.
